Stimulation Implant
|
A stimplant is an implantable electronic device that provides targeted neural stimulation for therapeutic effect. To cite the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke -- the hindbrain encompasses the upper section of the spinal cord, the brain stem, and a wrinkled ball of tissue called the cerebellum. The hindbrain controls the body's vital functions such as respiration and heart rate. The cerebellum coordinates motion and is involved in learned rote movements. When you play the piano or hit a tennis ball you are activating the cerebellum. The uppermost portion of the brainstem is the midbrain, which controls some reflex actions and is element of the circuit involved in the control of eye actions and different voluntary motions. The forebrain is the largest and many highly formed part of the human brain: it consists primarily of the cerebrum and the designs hidden beneath it.
A direct neural interface is direct linkage for transmission between organic neurons (such as found in a human brain) and an inorganic computer. Scientists are investigating the use of neuroimaging with feedback as a form of direct neural interface, but it is demanding for subjects to learn how to use it. Electroencephalography (EEG) has been tested as a possible means of direct communication from the human brain to machines, but as of yet it remains very imprecise. Cognitive neuroscience is the study of the nervous system (especially the brain) and the cellular mechanisms that form the foundation for brain functioning. It deduces on the principles of biochemistry and neurobiology. Neurobiology is the study of the micro and macro structure of neurons and their groupings and the neural basis of behavior. Neurology is the healing specialty associated with the basic domain of neuroscience. The brain is a highly complicated organ that emits highly complicated electromagnetic signals. Scientists have sought to directly read electric signals from the brain through brain-to-computer interfaces, but it is not an easy task. Brain activity can be detected by implanted or outside electrodes, but the output is very noisy and the patterns are complicated.
